hi all,

been reading through a few posts on here and like the idea of building a 1.9 mi engine from my 2 8v engines i have laying around, they are a 1.6 and 1.9.

ive tried gathering as much info as i can from the other posts but am still a bit uncertain as to what is exactly involved.

obviously i would need a 16v head, but what crank, rods, pistons do i need, is it a mixture of say 1.6 crank and mi pistons and rods?

does the head just bolt straight on as such?

also the 1.6 block is from a late (92) model so am i right in thinking it has the correct belt tensioner for the 16v head?

thanks

1.9 8v crank. This crank actually aids in reducing the oil surge issues that many mi16 engines suffer from (or so its thought)

dont forget to ensure you put the tensioner into the right part of the block, mei (welshpug) had a picture up somewhere of his 8v block which he put a thread in for the extra tensioner of the 16v engine.

yeah i think ive seen that picture, do the mi rods fit straight onto the 8v crank then with no machining etc?

will have to start trawling for some parts then,

thanks for the helpful replies guys

if you are looking for an MI head, and then thinking about swapping pistons about, would it not be easier to just put an MI in ? ? ?

While it's theoretically possible to put a 16V head on an 8V block, practically it's a pain:

1. Engine Mount - only 3 of the 5 bolts match up. Would you trust it?

2. Dipstick - wrong side of block.

Just buy a 16V and be done with it.

i see what you mean but was really looking at it as a project, admittedly it would be easier to put a mi16 straight in and be done with it, just a thought really as i have a few bits lying around.

Sell the bits and put the money towards the complete 16v imo. It would be a cool project if you could get it working, but the end result wouldn't give any advantage over a standard 16v engine, and it would take a lot of time and hassle.

Building my Mi for the first time was more than enough "project" for me,

Certain class regs require that you keep the standard block, so don't put him off I was planning on keeping an eye on this thread to see how it's done!
