How To Tell 405 Sri Gearbox Or 1.6 Gti?

have a be3 gearbox from a 1.6gti car that had a 405 sri engine put in it.

the gear box has 16x65 diff so could be either sri or 1.6,

it also has xu30 & be3 stamped on it.

obv be3 neans its a be3 but dose the xu30 mean anything?

 

or how else would i tell if its a 1.6 or a sri?

 

ive tryd to search but seen as i cant use sri, be3,gti or 1.6 i didnt get anything good.

I've had 1.6 box before , and now an 405 SRi item on my car .. in the case of SRi box 1-st and 2-nd are the same as on 1.6 box but 3-rd 4-th and especially the 5-th are longer

 

Go for a spin and record speedo position @ 3000rmp in 3-rd 4-th and 5th gear ...

the engine and box are out the car now so cant do that lol.

do you mean take the sump off and look at the actual cog?

what am i looking for. a code etc? or count teeth or what.

Don;t take the sump off thats on the engine, The tin cover on the end of the box and count the gear's, should take 10 mins

lol yeah i call that the gearbox sump. (not sure why come to think of it)

ok the cog on the left if gearbox was in car has 38 teeth and the cog on the right has 32 teeth.

dose that indicate anything?

its a 0.84 5th gear and a 4.06 final drive so it looks like a normal 1.6 gti gearbox.

 

IIRC the 405 SRI has a 0.76 5th gear on the same final drive.
