Weird Central Locking Problem.......

Howdy - don't know if this is a common fault but my central locking has never worked properly and I'm wondering if it's a difficult fix or not.

 

I have a 1990 phase 1.5 Gti - now the doors and boot LOCK centrally but they do not OPEN centrally. I believe I have the early non motored central locking system.

 

Anyone know how to resolve this - what parts I'd need and an idea of the cost of said bits? Any help appreciated - Ta!

More than likely wear in the drivers door latch IMO. Take the trim panel off the door and with the door shut, see if the locking works properly by pulling directly on the bar from the c/l (solenoid?) if it doesn't unlock like this - solenoid prob. to blame, if it does, prob latch. If fitting s/h latch, beware non c/l ones are different.
