So this is mi question, I've recently bought carbs from Kawasaki ZX9R 96' in excellent condition, 40mm is the throttle size, so what do you think, will they be able to feed a Mi16 engine normally or i would need a bigger ones?

I'm running GSX-R 1100Mikunis with 40mm throttles and 180 jets. Don't have power estimates but i ran a 14.8 standing quarter mile with an otherwise standard engine, 1.9 box and 14 inch alloys with standard Dunlop sport road tyres.

the main jets just unscrew. there is a good guide here.

my mi is just standard at the moment. i'm having a new inlet manifold made so in a couple of weeks i can give you power figures once its been set up on the rolling road

are there any specified rules when building the inlet manifold, pugit666 can you show me pictures of your manifold,

I'm open for ideas that you can give mi when fabricating the manifold....

I have made 2 manifolds for ZX9R carbs both for 8v heads though. First I built from scratch but it did not flow too well, this was due to the change in shape to match the square ports. the second I adapted a weber manifold which worked a lot better. I would suggest to make the transitions from carb-manifold-head as smooth as possible and avoid any sharp angle changes, protruding edges or changes in diameter.

i would agree with making everything as smooth as possible. the manifold i'm using at the mo is a very crude home-made one from a sheet of steel and 4 angled pipes. when i get my proper one in a couple of weeks i could send you a picture of that. its being made at bogg brothers. you may find some useful pics/ info at www.boggbros.co.uk

I have spoken with Steve at BB and was going to have him build me one, but decided I didnt want to spend £200 and wanted to make something myself. As I said I apapted a weber manifold to suit and it looks great. Good luck with yours

Here's how I did mine, chopped of an Mi inlet mani, made the inside of the ports conical (the edge was almost knife like when finished) and I used hoses to strap the carbs on. Cheap, easy and efficient.

using this also allows you in the future to upgrade to fuel injection using injectors (holes already there), standalone ECU and the carbs just become throttles.

Or nitrous oxide, or methanol injection

OK so, i understood for Mi but what can you say about 8V engines, with those square inlets, would be a option using also a std manifold...

This is because my cousin also have a GTI with 1.6L 8V engine he bought the same as mine....

No not really, the standard 8v manifold is the wrong shape to be cut down, I tried but it would be too much work. either have one built like you are, use a weber one and re-space the carbs or I have a spare 8v manifold made for ZX9r carbs but would accept many different ones im sure. could be for sale if you want? pm me
