Liners Seal Renewal.....would You?

Im running through a spare block at the moment ready to swap into my hillclimb pug, all new big ends and main, pistons are very clean, freshly honed bores BUT one liner is very loose and on removal of the piston the liner came out pretty easily!!

 

now 2 others seems pretty damn secure and 1 other has a very slight amount of movement

 

is it worth pulling out all 4 and setting new o rings in place after cleaning areas?!?!?

 

If so how the hell do you get the other liners out when they are stuck in place?!?!?

Personally, i would yes. After doing all that, would be a shame to see a liner leak for the sake of changing 4 o rings.

 

I taped mine from underneath, with a block of wood and a hammer to unseat them. Cleaned it all up, fitted new seals, then made sure the deck height was ok.

 

I cant remember exactly, but im sure the seals are only a few quid.

i have just fitted four new seals to my mi16, total cost was about 1.90 from pug.

cool im happy to hear its not expensive, its just the hassle of removing them but more so cleanin the block base up as all the rubbish with drop straight onto the nice clean crank

 

whats best to clean all crap out of the block and on the crank etc before refitting everythin, im thinking a few large cans of WD40 should do the trick

Id take the crank back out.

 

WD40 isn't going to do anything, get a can of brake cleaner to clean up the surfaces.

is this everyones opinion, can i get away with lots of brake cleaner to clean all the crap out once block base cleaned up from old liner seals??

no need to remove the crank, just rotate it so you can get at the bottom of the liners.

thats what i like to hear lol i hadnt thought of tapping the bottom of the liner with a wooden block, wasnt sure how i was gonna tackle it but thats a great idea

 

ill do this tomorrow nite, apart from this everything else looks good on the block (apart from slightly worryingly the previous builder who recond the block forgot to put the 2 exterior middle crank cap bolts, shocking, everything else seems fine thou

i used a can of brake cleaner and an air line to remove all the s*ite from the crank, then just reinstalled the conrods.

thats how I got my liners out, block of wood and a hammer, just make sure someone catches them when they fall out!

 

when putting the liners back in, I followed Tom Fentons advice and put some well-seal around the liner seats, just to make sure they're sealed properly, makes sense to me :lol:

Yeh good idea I've got some locktite gasket seal stuff so ill use that around the o ring

ok block has been partly stripped and liners removed and all cleaned up with a scotch brite pad, new seals are here so block is getting steam cleaned in the mornin to get all the s*it out of it then dried and new liners seals fitted with the liners and a load of locktite gasket stuff so fingers crossed they seal, then old block out and an new one in once everything swapped over, wish me luck

just one thing that I noticed between the old block and the new block, both D6B blocks, in the old block the block the pistons had about 2mm play around them within the bores whereas the new block the pistons are very snug within the bores with hardly a gap at all

 

Any know what that's all about, what better? I prefer the thought of the new block being a better fit tbh
