Xu10j2te Or Mi16 On Jenveys For Track Car?

Recommended Posts

NickMi

Hello everyone,

I am building a full blown track car. I have just finished the shell, Full weld in cage pinned into suspension etc. I have all the brakes, AST suspension etc.

I am looking at engine choices now and i have a MI16 engine and a set of jenvey throttle bodies with DTA management.

But i would love turbo power and the emense torque you get.

I dont know what 8V turbo unit is like on the track.

So should i sell the MI on bodies and go turbo or spend loads more money tuning the N/A MI?

Thanks

depends on the type of track you'll be driving on mainly, henry Yorke proved that his 1.9 Turbo Skip was as quick as a stripped out 205 gti6 around llandow, power levels were near identical with the turbo having a fair bit more torque albeit in a narrower band.

fit the mappable management on the 2.0 T and you'll get good results form an otherwise standard engine whereas you'll have to spend a fair amount to reach the same power level from N/A.

NA, Having done both the 16v is by far the better engine unless you start on custom manifolds and turbo on the 8v even with over 200bhp the turbo engine to me is lacking the full spread of power you get with 16v's, The torque on the turbo thou is great on the road

You can't beat the throttle response of a 16V on throttle bodies.

Agreed with the three above, NA all the way for track work. Less bits in your drivetrain will break too without the turbo motors torque ripping them apart.

N/A Gti-6 on throttle bodies for track. The Mi16 is lighter but the oil surge issue's will be a problem.
