Mi-16 Turbo Project Plans

Recommended Posts

nickaliath

Hello all,

Im planning to do another 205 project when i sale my mercedes.

Im planning this time to do a mi16 turbo engine keeping it in the front .

Does anyone know where to get forged pistons and uprated conrods for the mi16 in the UK?

Im planning on mounting turbo to left of engine using tubular stainless steel manifold. im gonna use a garrett gt28 turbo which i feel best for what i want.

Specs

- gt28 turbo

- tubular manifold

- low compression forged pistons

- low compression space plate

- External wastegate

- Uprated con-rods

- Uprated headgasket

- Stand alone management

- large front mount intercooler

- uprated engine bolts

- Quaiffe LSD

Thats the starting list anyway. :)

Im hoping for a reliable 260BHP, which i think is reasonable with given spec.

Let me know what you think, any help with parts would be excellent.

Nick

No need for compression that low, with the ECU's and fuel available now you can run quite high compression on Turbo's, The 260bhp will be easy to get along with the same amount of torque without going silly, I got from a 8v Turbo 2.1 220bhp and 240lb ft of torque without doing anything else than Forged Piston's and a Omex ECU.

there was a set of JE pistons on ebay last week for the Mi, and liners too. Think they were the 83.5mm ones???

Keep us informed of how you get on matey, I've been considering a forced induction Mi myself after going for a ride in allenallens supercharged Mi16.

they were high compression ones, 11.75-1, so not particularly useful here

there's plenty of places that can do you some pistons to suit, DFW Mi16 pistons would be an ideal off the shelf option as they are a lower compression engine as standard.

True, surely 260bhp is nothing on a turbo engine and you can just use standard DFW pistons and conrods without problems.

I sweedish guy were running a Mi16 alloy block with standard rods and 1.9 gti 8v pistons to lower comp, he ran like 400bhp on that stock internals setup.

Im after reliability mainly thats why im putting uprated parts into it. :)

Atleast then in the future i can put more boost through the system to up the power!!!!!

I saw those pistons, but yeah they are higher compression which sort of defeats the object!!!! LOL

Is there many people on here who have done the mi16 turbo in the front of a 205????

Are there any links to the projects of a mi16 turbo engine??

ah crap, didnt read the ebay ad tbh. I do however have 2 sets of DFW pistons, and 1 of those sets are ceramic coated too. But good luck with your project.
