Fuel Hoses At Bulkhead (removing)

Recommended Posts

How do i go about removing the fuel hoses from back of the engine bay/bulkhead. I am doign a gti6 conversion and therefore was going to renew the fuel hosing from where it joins on at the bottom of the bulk head onto the two metal pipes. I was going to secure new hosing using jubilee clips (please advise is this is incorrect) However when removing the old hoses one was held simply with a clip and came off with relative ease, the other was a metal screw on collar, ive removed the collar but it apears that no amount of force will get the hose to budge, am i going about this all wrong ? Also which side is the return side?

the one with the olive/shroud setup is the fuel supply.

mine was a total arse to remove, i ended up cutting the solid pipe slightly lower down to remove the joint, so i could work on it on a bench. much much easier than clambering over the engine with your legs in the air

They should be secured with a clip that can be opened and closed with a pair of long nosed pliers. I dont think the jubilee clips form a perfectly round closure due to them being so small. Once of the pipe should just slide off the metal hose, although it should be quite tight.

yea, the one with the clip hasnt been a problem, its just the other, i think i may simply cut it off slightly shorter and then put a new hose on. Any idea if them clips would be sufficient for the supply side of things ?

i wouldn't ( and didn't! ) chance it with just the hose pushed over the solid pipe and a clip. i pushed the hose over the barbed fitting then attached the barbed fitting with a new olive onto the solid pipe.

i definitely wouldn't fit it like the return is fitted..

they're an intereference fit and i remember having the same trouble as you guys when i had to disconnect one of mine. i ended up using Plusgas, pliers, and brute force - was a case of perseverence

The one with the screw on fitting is the supply hose, so it's high pressure. On mine, after getting it unscrewed (bloody bastard thing) I cut the remaining hose off of the removed connector, revealing the barbed section. I then slipped my replacement hose on to the barbed connector and fastened it with a proper fuel hose clip and rubber end protector, before re-attaching the connector to it's other half on the metal pipe and screwing them together. You could of course cut the screw connector off of the metal supply pipe (if you have the engine out), and then slip the fuel hose on the pipe and do it up with a fuel hose clip, but I'm not sure I'd advise it unless you could flare the end of the pipe first.

The other pipe is the return and is low pressure, hence not so important to get a good strong fitting on it. Mine was secured by a jubille clip, but when I fitted the new hose I replaced the clip with a proper fuel hose clip.

Don't use jubilee clips. Use fuel hose clips, as that is what they are designed for.
