Fitting Silicon Coolant Hoses

Recommended Posts

JayCC

Hey,

Do these look like the correct pipes that are replacing the old pipes on my gti? On my old gti, im sure the L shaped hose did not plug into a coupling adaptor like is shown, although i'm probably wrong. Someone may be able to put my mind at rest.

Also on the other matrix hose, the original one has a bleeding valve, whilst the silcon replacement does not. Will i need to fit my own valve (is this even possible?) or does it not matter and can be bled from the thermostat and expansion tank?

Thanks guys.

Earlier (Phase 1 and 1.5) 205 GTi's had a small coolant block with the ECU temp sensor that goes between the two hoses, whereas later (Phase 2) GTi's had the ECU temp sensor on the thermostat housing itself and hence had a one piece hose. What it looks like you've got, is a pair of earlier hoses that have been joined together to fit onto a later car - it will work fine, just not quite as tidy or desirable as having the correct single piece hose.

Thanks Anthony, that explains it.

I just had a look on my mates 1.6 8v and his looks completely different again (goes out of thermostat housing and heads downwards towards the gearbox then under and upto the the matrix.
