Gasket Paper - Between Head & Thermostat

Recommended Posts

Masekwm

Hello,

I've managed to damage the gasket between head and thermostat, which thickness of gasket paper should I buy to make a new one?

Peugeot list the gasket at £1.40 but I won't be able to get there to order one :(

Thanks

Some decent sealer, RTV type stuff should be fine. Ive used it on various bits of engines etc. Even if you just use it till you get a gasket.

i use hermitite on most stuff like that.

When making gaskets, I use Cornflakes cardboard alot, it works very well.

I bought a thermostat to fit to my new engine and the seal which came with it is about 1.5 mm thick but like said above RTV or instant gasket if you like will do the job fine

It's not the thermostat, but the housing which attachs to the block which is leaking. I'm off down the motorfactors now so hopefully I'll find something

Damn, I was thinking of that, but I've bought red sealant and paper gasket. If I can't get it right I'll buy the copper. I need it sealed properly for CC next weekend!

something like red Hermetite should be fine. the blue one is may be blue Hylomar, which is an adhesive and not a sealant

same problem with mine, I use blue hylomar for most things but it doesn't seem to seal the thermostat housing to block very well
