Mi16 Two Row Seems Like It's Cutting Due To Fuel Starvation

Recommended Posts

Bit odd this one. Std Mi16 on 2 row system. runs fine all the time other than the other night after sitting in some traffic pulled out to overtake and it almost went dead, like fuel starvation (only it's was 3/4 full), for 0.5/1.0 sec then was fine. Did a few times within a few minutes and then has been fine since. Run it ragged round the lanes last night for a few miles with the fuel light on and it was fine, so it's not fuel starvation.

Was thinking it might be the ign amp, I have two mounted on the car, both properly earthed with heat sink paste etc. trouble is (with same ign amp) it has done it since, including getting nice and hot in traffic over the w/e.

Any ideas?

wiring loom and all earth points are all good and it's just been built/rewired too

periodically it's still doing it. The other night with about a 1/4 tank and in a straight line it started missing like it was running out of fuel again (it's done ith with nigh on a full tank of fuel too, it's not surge). I pulled in to put some fuel in it and when I took the cap off there was a substancial vacuum in the tank. Afterwards it was fine, but then it does it so infrequently that it could be coincidence anyway.

Anyone else had this problem with vacuum in the tank. Obviously the pump has to fight this vacuum to pump fuel.

I gave it a hammering though the lanes last night for 40 miles and it was fine.

So there's a little breather thing under the back by the rear valance. What does this thing do? Vent air into the tank only? Any chance it could be blocked or other?

there should be a one way valve on the end of it IIRC, it is just a vent into the tank.
