Best Downpipe For Gti6 Conversion

Recommended Posts

jimmer

Just wondered what exhaust downpipes people are using (car model and where purchased from) for the 6 conversion? I have re-angled my manifold and intend to make a brand new downpipe with a lamda boss in it fit. Can you use a 1.9 gti cat model downpipe and does it have the split into 2 type downpipe. I would rather use a downpipe with just a single bore in it.

Any help much appreciated

Is it important to remove the split then? (and how do you go about doing that)

only on the 8v engine, the gti6 was designed with a 4-1 in mind.

I was trying to work out what was on mine earlier, whatever it is it's very loose at the top join so it'll have to come off soon.

I've seen the split on the downpipe's on std 1.9's blown to pieces and restricting the flow of the exhaust, so i figured it was best to use a downpipe without a split in the first place. I ran a downpipe with no split in my 1.9 mi16 with no ploblems.

Yeah its much better to run without the split! Ever heard of a 4-1-2-1 exhaust manifold? Me neither.

Pretty sure the Mi16 manifold is an 8-1, so no split necessary either.

its 8-2-1 on the 1.9 Mi and 4-2-1 on the 2.0 Mi as standard

I've used a Devil downpipe on a 2.0 which had the split extended further than stock and it revved better than any other standard one I've driven.
