Increase Cc On 1.9 Gti 8v?

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

Is it possible to increase the cc of the 1.9 gti 8v engine? I think i read somewhere that you could throw in a crankshaft fram a diesel with a 92mm stroke (if so what will the cc be)? I dont want to go the iron block route so i am looking at other solutions.

What is the absolute maximum cc you can pull on a 1.9 gti alloy block engine?

Depends how much money you want to spend. you can fit 86mm liners and keep the 88mm and have 2045cc's although very costly.

Not seen the even longer stroke crank mentioned before, the engine's already 83x88

Okay. Where do i get 86mm liners from? Mi16 alloy block? Does these liners fit straight in to the 8v block? What about pistons. I recon i need the mi16 pistons as well then?

There's a long post about this but you need custom liner's fitted into the block, There's none left now so you would be looking at close on £4k>£5k for the conversion with the min order of liner's

Mi16 liners+pistons are 83mm - same as the 8v. There aren't any larger liners used in any production engines. Aftermarket liners are available upto 85mm I think, but they're not cheap. You'd also need larger pistons to go with them - again not cheap.

With the standard 83mm bore and a 92mm crank from a 2.1 diesel you would end up with 1991cc.

Okay that sounds very expensive. And the 92mm crank unfortunately seems quite hard to get a hold of.
