Recommended Posts

ok, i have seen and read there are two cambelt setups for the gti6, a 136 and a 137 tooth, now im not sure which one i need, and im just wondering if its simply a case of ordering the correct cambelt or is there a pref towards changing to a particular setup.

my cambelt setup is as per picture

have you counted the teeth?

that's the 136 T belt and manual tensioner, the preferred one IMO, the later 137 T kit uses a sprung loaded plastic tensioner wheel.

Thats the 136 set up, These are much better than the later type. I still say the only reason the belts snap is due to the extra load on them from the lift of the cam, As 98% os the PSA range that use this engine don;t have many problems at all,

I would get the belt kit from Pug and the pump from GSF, the Pug kit is only around £75.00 which isn;t far off the GSF kit and you know you'll get the quality parts

ah ok no worries miles, ill take your advice on that and get the pug kit. So are you saying that the 136 tooth cambelt setup is prone to snapping belts.

no, the RS engine is prone to breaking belts, regardless of the tensioner setup.

No the 136 are not prone to snapping, well no more than any other. I think everyone think's that the tensioners fail causing the belt to snap, which most of the time isn't the case, Yes the tensioner's do fail but not very often, The design is years old and well proven
