Later Xu Camshaft Regrinds

I'm looking to get an inlet cam reground for a road going XU10J4RS engine, and also a fastroad 1600 16v project.

The choices are XU7JP4, XU10J4R, or XU10J4RS, obviously the former two choices would be somewhat cheaper as a donor, plus I have them to hand

If you are having it reground I can't see how it matters much which you start with. They will all need the base circle reducing anyway.

what will couse that there is no more pre lift between the cam and the lifters, you get a noisy rattle engine and - 20kw

so the standard base circle is too close to the maximum height of the hydraulic lifters?

No, you just need to be careful not to take too much off. The RS cam has the most lift and duration from those listed and thus has the most material available. If you get too greedy in the regrind process the base circle will become too small and thus there will be insufficient lifter preload.

so for a mild fast road grind they would be fine to use, but if you wanted anything wilder it'd have to be blanks?

a cheeky little bump before Dan gets back from the Eurotrip, I'll be sending a cam with one of his to be re-ground, still unsure which to send but I have obtained a cheap pair of RS cams that I can use and intake for a re-grind.
