Mi16 Engine Loom Grommet

Recommended Posts

yorkshirekowboy

hi all,

i think i can remember there was a topic on this but i can't find it at all.

anyhow i have been trying to fit/adapt my existing engine loom grommet to fit me mi16 loom, and as you will all know its fatter than the 8v one. The grommet hole i have made bigger but i cant get a good seal on the bulkhead and because of this i get slight engine noise in the cabin.

an ideas?

regards

dan

yeah thats what i thought but you had to cut it in half to get the grommet on the loom?. I have done that and the loom grommet seems to not sit properly at the rear. The bigger back of the grommet goes inside the car and the smaller end goes in the engine bay. Its annoying me as i can get it to sit how it should.

I'm assuming mine has the original 8v one (was done by DES). When I got it, the grommet was sliced at one side to slip it over the loom, but this meant that when it was in the bulkhead it spread apart, and the loom had worked it's way in to the gap where it was sliced, and there was a big gap in to the cabin.

When I replaced my loom, I squeezed the grommet together as hard as I could to close the gap, and then wrapped insulating tape around the middle of the grommet to hold it together. It was a ball ache getting it back in to the bulkhead but after a lot of faffing it sits there almost 100% correctly and properly fills the hole now with no gaps.

Mine is the original 8v one sliced in half. Seems to have been sealed back in (neatly) with a shedload of RTV sealant, which worked fine until i undid it all!
