Cordless Impact Drivers

I'm thinking about investing in one of these bad-boys, but not that sure which one to go for. I know a few people on here have got them, so has anyone got any recommendations? Is 18V the best thing to go for?

Cheers.

My fella uses a 18v Snap On one and says there's nothing it hasn't be able to do while working on a car yet. Brilliant bit of kit...

Snapon 18v is about £400 IIRC, used a colleauges one and it was nice and capable, but I don't think it was worth £150 more than the MAC 18v one my mate bought, which goes for £200-250 IIRC, outright power may be a bit less, but if you're not working on HGV's like he was then you don't need that grunt of the snapon one.

Sealey one has a cheap and cheerful feel to it, doesnt compare to the two mentioned above IMO.

I infact just bought a snap-on 18v second hand, we use one at college, and I spoke to mister snap-on van blokey last week, he could do me an offer of £362 for 2 battery jobbie. In the end I bought one off ebay in clean condition for £170.

IMO so handy for undoing those super tight bolts in a jiffy and whizzing stuff off (hub nuts, wheel bolts etc).

He wanted less than that even if it wasn't on offer only just above £450.

Also said they can undo 650NM.

Yeah they have really good peak torque as well as sustained torque (according to sales bumf).

I'll see how much they are tomorrow when the snap-on wench comes round, and maybe see if I can get it in several instalments.

you have a snapon bird? damn, all the ones I've ever seen are blokes, failed mechanics usually :D

you'll be paying for it for 2 years !

I'd echo ed's comment, with snapon you get the guarantee if it says snapon on it, so generally if its worn out you get it fixd for free, though I'm unsure what exactly is covered on these battery impact guns.

I'd go for the snap on if I were you, a friend has one and have used it a lot and it is infinitely better than any other I have used. Definitely worth the cash.

Well, she's not the most feminine woman i've ever met!

I'll have to ask about the guarantee etc, its getting quite tempting.

Doug's DeWalt one worked really well. Less than the Snap On one. This one I believe.

Its been a couple of years since i last used a snap on gun, and there are a few ins and outs on there warranty, but its deffinatly not as good as you'd think. So look it up deffinatly.

I have a Draper 18v. Cost £150 when on sale, i've owned it for 2.5 years and still plows on removing nuts and bolts. Just a shame some of these units are quite noisy, bit enoying when using mine in my quiet neighbour hood!

Well, just seen the snap-on wench and its mixed news. The gun is £350 but they won't have any in until at least next month. I've put my name down for one though, so will just have to wait until then. :(
