What Gearbox?!

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Went to change the clutch on my newly aquired 205 yesterday and was under the impression that it had a 1900 engine and box but a 1900 clutch doesn't fit. The markings on the gearbox are U30 BE3, anyone know if this is a 1600 or 1900 box?

Thanks

Martin

All 1.6 and 1.9 engines and gearboxes use the same 200mm clutch friction and pressure plate - the only difference is that BE1 (earlier models with lift-up reverse next to 1st) use a different release bearing to BE3 (later, reverse below 5th) models.

They're the same :)

You need a clutch for a post '91 205 GTI 1.6/1.9 as you have a BE3 gearbox. The release bearing is the only difference BTW, if the clutch itself wont fit its not a GTI clutch or you don't have a GTI flywheel.
