Silicone Pipe 'caps' Stockist?

Recommended Posts

MerlinGTI

Does anyone know a place that sells silicone pipe 'caps' for blocking off unused barbs?

Ive tried ebay and demon tweaks, as well as google with no luck. I swear ive seen them on motors though?

Cheers

I havent really looked for any tbh. Or seen silicone ones.

Ive used some soft plastic type things that come on fuel filters / pumps etc on my TB.

Not the greatest pic. Ive swapped them to black i think, or at least all the same colour :) Is this the kind of thing you mean ?

yup, thats the type of thingy I ment :)

Surely its a common need, im supprised people like samco dont do short lengths of pipe with sealed ends!? Your McGuyver like resourcefulness is great for small OD barbs, but for stuff like 18mm + we are stuffed.

there's several standard trubber ones you cen get from various peugeot engines across the ranges, take some time to have a look through servicebox for the appropriate ones, I used a couple on an Mi16 conversion last year but I cant remember which ones I used, Diesel 405 springs to mind for the extra takeoff on the rear water housing.

BX 16v inlet manifold has a bung for the servo takeoff where the Mi doesnt.

Which ones in particular are you after?

I need to cap off the larger 'hole' on the K&N adapter (about 20mm, but thinking about it id probabbly be better off stuffing something inside that) the top brass barb on the throttle body (about 6mm), possibly one of the filler cap barbs..

For the throttle body drill and tap it, then block it with a bolt screwed in.

Hi there, im after 3 X 20mm I/D hose blank bungs, so could use your 19mm ones.

So do you have 3 x 19mm ones left?

Will they be ok to blank the water system off? Using to take away the top metal heater rail off the MI16 engine.

Well I just finally got round to measuring the pipes im blanking.

Water Dist Block - 22mm

SAD Inlet - 15mm

SAD Intake - 22mm

Heater Matrix Top Hose - 21mm

Would these Silicone pipe 'caps' be suitable? and if so can you put me in touch with who you got them off so I can get the size's I need?

Thanks, Ed.

They probably will be fine for capping off Pressurised coolant systems, but its a close call in my opinion. I wouldnt personally reccommend it. They are more than suitable for the oil recuirculation system etc..

These are not silicone either (that was just in the title for the thread before I bought anything). They are some sort of flexible plastic.

Ed, I dont think you will want to buy any from the place I got them as they are EXTREMELY expensive. I completely miss-read the order info on their webpage (minium orders, price per UNIT) and my jaw hit the floor when I got the bill (I ordered over the phone). I will pm you anyway ;)

if these are what i think they are i'd be VERY wary about using them anywhere hot/pressurised. i think you'd find the cooling system blows them to smithereens.

I see what you mean about price... think im gonna have to use peugeots owning blanking pipes at this rate for the water dist and top matrix hose, only thing is its still somewhere to leak and another jubilee clip unless I can come up with some sort of hammer in bung.

Where you've blanked off the base of the Throttle bodies the V bit you don't need to they connect to nothing, I usuall just cut them off flush to where they go in to the TB body and leave it at that.

Exactly what im doing as well... cutting all the tabs off that are un needed all over the engine, not only is it weight saving but it makes things easier access ;)

Thanks for the help lads.

Right I can get some silicone hose blank caps made by Stuart at BBM, but I need a minimum of 20 orders & he will make 100 otherwise not worth his wile.

I need 3 x 20mm ID in blue. These will be about £5 each. Who else wants any? sorry will only be in this size.
