Front Grille

Well, I assume they are different as the one on my car now is solid (no spaces between the three stripes) as opposed to having cutouts to allow air to pass. In other words, mine doesn't look like the one below. I can't see through the spaces between the stripes.

Am I right in assuming mine is from a 'lesser' 205?

Has anyone tried modifying a grille from a 'lesser' 205 so that it has holes/vents like a regular GTI grille?

Or is my only option to get an original gti grille?

I believe the diesels have the closed grille, this is because otherwise they don't stay warm enough!

My XS has the closed grille as well, i just took the drill out and put a few holes in to give a better airflow to the filter

I had the grille off my sister's 1.1 petrol when it was scrapped and it was identical to my GTi one.

Well, as I said earlier, mine was closed up. Got a friend with an angle grinder and some plastic files and opened up some spaces to allow more air in. Had to take the grille apart but it was a quick job. Now the engine temperature doesn't get quite as high as before. Hopefully I can get the temp down a little more in a few weeks.

GTis are supposed to have open grilles, so yours might have been replaced somewhere in it's life by the grille of a lesser model (1.1 or diesel).
