Thermostat To Sad Water Pipe Split

Recommended Posts

damien

morning

my sad water pipe (that little 4"ish one) split on me this morning, i pulled over and let the old girl cool down then carryed on home down the M20, i stuck below 50 creaping along and was keeping a eye on the temp gages, there where high but not off the clocks/red lights on.

the trip was about 5miles all motorway (apart from when i stopped at a juntion) could i of damaged the head or anything else from driving her?

thanks

It should be ok as there was probably 'some' water still left in. If there wasnt any left in though you would have had an incorrect reading from the temp guage. Replace the pipe and fill the system back up with water/coolant and it should be fine.

You'll know soon enough, once it has cooled right down and you have changed the hose, fill it with water, bleed it, and see how it goes. If it suddenly starts overheating or using water then you have damaged something, if not then you've got away with it.

Personally if ever I have a car lose water I stop there and then and get it towed home to avoid any possible damage, but up to you.

That's a (the most?) common hose to split, and it's cheap from Peugeot as well.

Chances are that it'll probably be OK if it didn't overheat badly and there was still sufficient coolant in the system to allow you to complete your journey slowly, but either way, any damage is done now - just keep an eye on it losing coolant, which is the usual first symptom of a failing headgasket in my experience.

Is that the little G shaped one? Mine split and I didn't even make it 2 miles home before the STOP light came on  But once home, I changed the pipe and refilled it and everything was fine
