Cheap Easy Mods

Recommended Posts

kennygti

Was just wondering if there is any cheap easy DIY mods that people do to there GTIs when they first get them. Mine is a 1.9 8v on a K. It has an exhaust and a pikey mounted pipercross which is cleverly mounted about the exhaust manifold soon to be moved

Put the original airbox back on, give it good service, then try a search, as there is a mass of knowledge within the forum already :rolleyes:

Depends what you call cheap and easy. But in general there aren't any easy gains on the 8v engine.

What about those resistors on ebay, at least a 20 bhp gain i've heard! :(

Seriously though, has it got a cat? If so if its on an early K plate, does that mean its not compulsory to have a cat IIRC? Just get hold of a good full power 1.9, junk the cat and theres some extra ponies! If its too new and does require a cat, get a mate with a garage!

The cheapest and best mod you can make on any car is to lay the rear seats flat. It lowers the weight of the car making it accelerate faster. And best of all, it's FREE!!!

Haven't done it myself, but got this from a very reliable source on a Corsa forum.

I can cofirm, this lowered my 0-60 time by approx 1 second.

Not bad for a free mod

No, if you are serious then get a hold of an angle grinder and cut the roof off. Including windows this could save you about 100 kilos.

Naaah joke... The easiest (if easy) mod is doing the XU10 conversion. But people generally disagree as to whether this works or not. I have still not managed to do mine yet, but i am going to do so soon.

deflate your tires as holding extra air is just extra weight.

Dont forget to allways polish it as it will be more aerodynamic. I wonder what happened to that guy on the VXR forum, do you thin he's learned the error of his ways yet.

Whenever I'm feeling a little reckless and fancy unleashing a bit more power I just close all the air vents, essentially preventing the cabin acting as a big parachute.
