Does This Bolt Carry A Particular Torque Setting?

Recommended Posts

humanz

Came across this while changing the thermoswitch on my radiator. Can I just undo the bolt (circled in pink), position the oil filler bracket where I think it should go (under that little protrusion shown in blue), and then tighten it by hand until it feels nice and tight? Is there any good reason why the bracket wasn't hooked under there in the first place?

Every bolt has a recommended torque but just do it tight, its only holding a bracket.

The oil filler does not hook onto there, bear in mind peugeot used the same oil filler across many of their range at the time to keep down costs so it is there for another model.

my oil filler sits on there, you remove the bracket, push the filler on the bit sticknig out of the inlet manifold and put the bracket back on to hold it in place

In my experience if you do that it kinks the oil filler pipe. I use the bracket on the back by the lifting eye, bit of a tight squeeze to get it on there but all the pipes have a much better structure I found.

My filler pipes ok but the pipes pretty new so it probably would be,i know what your saying about them kinking, they get covered in oil and go all soft.

Well, had a look at my bay again....here are some pics of where the oil filler is now...it's bolted at one end,

but just hanging at the other as shown in the first pic in the thread.

Can't see how you managed to get the filler bracket by the lifting eye, EdCherry. Will give shifting the bracket to where I originally thought it should go, as pugdamo agreed. I can see how the bottom hose might kink, especially with the wires for the starting motor etc. running under the filler, so if it's too kinked will put it back as it was (hanging at one end).

My initial concern was that it looks too high. Noticed it from the drivers seat with the bonnet up. Seemed higher than everything else, now that I've gotten a battery with the correct height fitted. :)

That 'hook' on the front of the filler neck is not meant to mount it, it is meant for a pipe to clip into. The pipes are never routed the correct way though so I forget which pipe it is meant to hold!

No way is it for a pipe to clip into,if it was the pipe would have to go into the filler and then be at an immediate 90 degree bend otherwise it would be in the inlet manifold. All my pipes are routed correctly, there isnt to many pipes so you could hardly get the routing wrong.

Its definatly meant to go on the the manifold but as Edcherry says it may kink the pipe if its gone soft

Had a go at putting the bracket where I thought it was meant to, but the other end of the bracket on the oil filler (circled in green) has a little lip which made it hard to position the filler without removing the backet for the throttle cable. It looks like it could fit, but I feared it might bend (and eventually snap it), plus I couldn't put my hands on a 11mm spanner to loosen the bracket holding the throttle cable.

Will check my old 1.6 engine at my mechanic and see what's done with the oil filler on that lump.

the hook on the front is NOT used on the 8 valve engine, it is used on the 16v 1.9 Mi16 though.

No, as said it's just part of the universal fitment of the filler neck, The 8 or even 16v Pug engine's have no use for this at all, Trust me I know as I had them when they where new
