Easiest Way To Find Tdc Please?

Recommended Posts

mattbenselin

I have a 1.9 8v XU and am trying to time up my trigger wheel for a Megajolt. However the flywheel timing plate normally bolted to the block allowing you to align the flywheel is missing. Is there another way to find TDC on cylinder 1 or will I need to get another little plate thingy?

Thanks, Matt

place a rod down the spark plug hole and turn the engine till the rod stops moving upwards, mark the pulley, then keep going till it starts going back down, the centre point between the two will be TDC :D

Thanks...I had thought of doing something like that but was unsure of how accurate it could be. Suppose I will give it a try and see what happens. What happens if I dont end up with the correct position of TDC and consequently time the trigger wheel slightly wrong? Nothing or something?

If you're going to do any amount of this stuff you should really get a dial gauge, it will make your life a lot easier!

Hi Matt,

I used the method Welshpug suggested and worked fine. The piston is at TDC for 10 degrees and you can correct the angle in the megajolt by +-5 deg. No worries anyway as the engine will start even with a 5 deg offset.

Hope you finish your car before you go back to uni. Tell me how things go.

Andrei
