Another Missfire Thread

Recommended Posts

ive got a missfire (again) and its starting to pee me off.

it starting in jan so after reeading afew threads on here i changed the leads/plugs dizzy and everything was all find and dandy, then afew weeks later it happened again so again i changed the plugs/leads then all is good, last time i chaged the plugs/leads was at the start of the month, last night she started missfiring AGAIN!!!

whats the bet if i change the leads/plugs if will be fine for afew weeks then start up again??

im getting fed up with changing the leads/plugs every few weeks, im using halfords own leads and the ngk plugs. the engine is standard and covered 180k, she is drinking a little oil but other than that she is fine.

could the cheap leads/plugs be to blame or is it something else?

please help as i need her running 100% for the euro trip.

thanks

Ignition amp. when ever theres a problem with misfiring ignition amp is the first candidat for check/replacement on my top list !

(it's wise to add one known good ignition amp. to the car's emergency spares stock  this thing can save you from spending a night in the middle of nowhere , especially when going on a long trip ..)

Ok then , how about the dizzy signal cable ? start the engine an wiggle the cable all around , check the dizzy pick up coil signal trough the cable with multimeter and check cable wires for continuity (also wiggle them around during the measuring) ..

Tried spare coil yet ?

If it's good when fitting new set of plugs/leads then something might rub on the leads which in the end damages the lead insulation which results with the current/spark leaking past the damaged area onto the body/engine earth .. and leaves one cylinder without spark ..

Now perform this test at night , start the engine , open up the bonnet switch off the lights and carefully check all around the leads , dizzy cap , coil tower ... if theres arcing/current leaking you'll see blue spark breaking the lead insulation and , often , a clicking sound from this area .

know how you feel mate lol. Sorry to spam your thread but i have a very similar problem. Not so much with a misfire but when i drive my car and stop, turning the engine off, and go to restart while its still warm it sometimes doesn't start. Doesn't even try. Sometimes makes a clicking ie solenoid from the starter. However if i then wait about 2 mins and try again it will start :) Could this again be the amp and also heard a lot about paste that goes under the amp. What is this paste and where do i get it from. Cheers

i have a ongoing missfire problem and i have changed my ig amp, i got the thermal paste from a computer shop for £2, if you go to pc world etc you can get some there for a bit more money!! i think when the amp gets warm the paste helps to get rid of the heat through the paste and onto the ally plate its bolted too. (p.s this hasnt helped my problem!!! doh)
