Main Cap No.1 Seals

Haynes shows sealant being put around a hole on the block (which mine doesn't have) where the seal head sits on. And the seals shown have a protrusion that sits in the hole, which the new ones don't have. I haven't seen this hole in the few engines seen apart (8 or 16v). The early 205 workshop manual shows the hockey stick seals, as I have, without the protusion, and doesn't mention sealant being used. Do I need to use it?

Personally I use a dab of silicone here to insure against leaks. If you do get a leak from here it is obviously a major task to put it right.

Like you say, better to play it safe. Don't fancy taking it apart again, once it's all back together!
