Mi16 Thermostat Housing- Is There A Gasket?

Recommended Posts

philfingers

Mine never had a gasket fitted so I fitted it with hylomar (instant gasket) and now it's starting to leak. Should there be a gasket and if so is it the same as an 8v one. just to elaborate, it's the housing to the block I'm talking about and it's an alloy block

there isn't one listed for the 1.9, 2.0 or T16, only some 8v, many other engines don't show one listed.

I had no trouble with an 8v housing fitted with Wurth sealant

ta, will whip it off and reseal it then. Maybe worth dropping on the milling machine and skimming it

There's no gasket, but I've never had any issue with RTV'ing it in place

could be a bit of corrosion possibly. Will have to take a look. Need to sort the thermo take off to thermo hsg seal anyway as have a homemade rubber gskt in there which isn't great

When my GTi6 was leaking from the adapter, I looked on service box and there is not one listed but when I asked in my local pug dealer they had one.

Ours has a seal that goes around the thermostat itself. I always clean the housing up before refitting it as well
