Mi16 Misfire/rich Problem

Recommended Posts

Adnic69

I am having problems with my MI16. It has been running so well, really sweet. Until today!

On the M25 then instantly it coughs, splutters and dies. Pull over and get it running, tickover is fine so I accelerate and it dies again. Manage to limp home with it coughing and spluttering. Running on 2, then 3 then 4 for a while then back to 2/3. I have checked all the afm connection and it makes no odds what I try. Took the plugs out and they are pure soot.

I took a reading accross the ecu temp sensor(blue plug?) and it was 0.85 ohms while the water is luke warm.

Any ideas why it would be so sweet one second and awful the next?

My money is on the ignition amp, had similar problems with the 8v.

Cant remember what the resistance for the ECU temp sender is, but it maybe worth sticking a new one in. Also worth checking the connections to the sender, ive had similar symptoms with the wires broken off in the plug before.

Will the ignition amp be shagged or just require some thermal paste on the back of it?

Dont forget the AFM either.

If you are suddenly running mega-rich, the first thing I would check would be the AFM wiring, especially around the multi-plug.

If thats OK, and you've resistance checked the wires back to the correct pins on the ECU plug, it would be worth checking the AFM track for voltage readings etc. Theres a nice little program called CAPS or something like that, that someone linked me to on this forum, very handy for diagnosing electrical faults.

edit: just re-read your post and you already did that, sorry!
