Gti Vs Base Model

What are the benefits from running GTI front suspension over the Base line TU front suspension. I know the wishbones and ARB mountings are completely different, but still cant see what the diff is all about?

A well setup (i.e refreshed bushes and balljoints)base model setup will probably be just as good as the standard GTi setup - You'd have to be a real pro I think to be able to tell the difference without knowing. (Obviously with the same spring rates etc).

Someone with more knowledge may come along soon and explain why having a de-coupled anti-roll bar is better though (i.e the GTi setup!)

With the base model setup I think you get some really odd castor changes when corning due to the ARB pulling the TCAs backwards and forwards.

 

The main reason I decided to swap was that it allows easier fiddling with the ARB, it was cheap and came with a pair of polybushed 309 wishbones!

in my opinion, gti is easier to work on and lasts abit better

I swapped the base model suspension for some GTI suspension on my XT and i found the GTI stuff to be much better. The turn in felt better and it seemed to lose less grip when cornering over bumps. Yes it is much easier to disconnect the ARB on the GTI set up but i've done this and i hated it, each to their own though.

I didn't mean disconnect the ARB in my reply, I meant that the design of the GTi suspension, with the anti-roll bar connected to the strut via droplinks is sometimes referred to as a de-coupled anti-roll bar... I think :) As AdamP says, tends to stop the anti-roll bar from mucking about with the alignment depending on the load on it.
