Handbrake Cable Length

My car has just failed its MOT, and among other things (discs, ball-joint, etc.....) the handbrake failed. I've noticed that my cables appear to be too long, and don't want to fit in the clips under the car, as the extra length just keeps popping them out. I'm sure this isn't helping the handbrake pull evenly on each caliper. Has anyone got a measurement of how long each cable should be? Both the cable itself and the sleeve?

Overall length for the left cable is 1425mm and the right is 1430mm.

Thanks for that, I guessed they should be slightly different. Anyway, I've bought some cable from a Pug dealer, so hopefully they'll be a better fit.

Which side is the longer one on? OS or Ns?

 

I take it when people say right or left they mean looking at the front of the car?
