Cambelt Tensioner

Recommended Posts

Mark205

I recently bought a 1.6 bottem end to strip down and rebuild.

I noticed when i got it though that it has got the spring loaded tensioner, which indicates that it is the early type engine, (correct me if i'm wrong).

My question is can the spring loaded tensioners be changed for the later type tensioner.

Cheers

Mark

I think most have the spring loaded tensioner,so it would'nt mean it is an early engine.

I dont think it would matter if it is an early engine anyway as the bottom ends are the same.

What type of tensioner is the one where you have to make or buy a tool to fit in the square section on the tensioner and pull it round before the nut is tightened.

I dont have that type on this engine, i have a different type of tensioner.

Want to know wether they can be swapped.

earlier engines did have the spring tensioner and later the eccentric round tensioner, not sure when they changed possibly 1991/1992.
