Cage Problems

Recommended Posts

Ok, maybe im just being picky, but unless you are you dont notice little things right?

Anyway I finished tightening the bolts on the cage so I could make some templates up for cage feet, went to put it into position and it looks like its almost bent a little. I bought it second hand off someone on here, as he was removing it for a C44 cage, dont want to name names if im just being silly. Anyway the pictures will do the talking. Safety Devices C12.

The rear right has the corner bent up slightly, will straighten out easy. I realise the cage isn't sitting in exactly the right position and needs moving forwards slightly, not sure by how much though, anyone care to give me a hint?

Is it just going to be a bit of brute force to cage sitting in place (ratchet straps) or is it a load of scrap?

If you've just bolted it all together I'm not suprised it doesn't fit the car. First weld the plates in the back, then bolt the rear hoop in, the set about the front plates with the front sections LOOSELY bolted together.

Thought so Tom, thanks for clearing it up, just need to make some templates up tomorrow evening to cut the steel then. Are the front feet the only ones that have nuts welded to the back?

is it sat on its wheels on flat ground? you'd be surprised how much these old shells flex.

Nah its not, its up on stands still LOL, will make some slightly oversized templates and trim them down when it comes to getting it welded.

Nothing to worry about, most 205's are different but as said the shells flex when up on stands and when fitted they are a pain to use the bolt's but do fit, No need to weld nut's on either

The shell's vary so much mate, my OMP cage was exactly the same, the rears mounted fine, but the front legs took ages to fettle, and even then it didnt sit exactly square, after fabbing the mounts i packed it square. :)
