Driveshaft Gaitors

Hi just brought a pair of new inner gaitors for my 1.9. both the same and was told they fit either side. My question before i start ripping them to bits is are they the same. the long shaft on divers side has a coke can type fitting and the gaitor goes inside this. How does it come apart do i cut old gaitor? does it pull out? and does new gaitor go over the top ? thanks
