Hazards Not Working

car failed its MOT today, the hazards don't work. the indicators work ok unless you put the hazard switch on and then they stop.

 

its a ph1 car with ph2 switches. i tried an old ph1 switch but this did the same

Try changing the combined hazard/indicator relay and check fuses.

fuses are ok i'll try a relay, could it be the stalk?

No, a faulty stalk would not cause the hazard lights to not work.

am i right in thinking there should be a permanent live for the switch? i think its wire number ten if i remember from the other day. i couldn't find a live wire til i turned the key so i think this could be my problem?

Yes the hazards have a seperate permanent 12v feed so they work at all times regardless of the ignition switch & stalk position.

 

The hazards are on a seperate fuse, #5 on the post 86 cars iirc.

 

Looking at the Haynes diagram wire # 10 should be right for the 12v feed, thats the one that runs though fuse #5 anyway.

thanks for that. i checked all the fuses the other day so i'll have a look the weekend as to why wire 10 has no power.

turned out to be dodgy connection in the fusebox on wire 10
