New Fuel Pump - Not Pumping Through Lines?

Recommended Posts

Guest Modman08

Hi

I have just changed out my fuel pump, on my 1.9 205 which was the original Bosch part due to it being unbelievably noisy and found to be on its last legs.

I decided to fit a Sytec uprated replacement part which appears to be working well and pumping strong, however Iam unable to get any fuel through my lines to the injectors.

Releasing the pipes at the pump end shows the pump is working strong but as soon as I reconnect the lines, it seems it maybe doesnt have enough pressure to push it through towards the engine.

The filter is dry, so too is the fuel rail and injectors...nothing is getting through. Does anyone have any ideas??, because at the moment Im quite baffled.

Im about to get my hands on a guage to check the pressure but Id love to hear some advice just incase that doesn't help my case.

Just incase it matters, the pump model number is ITP246, and ive recently had the SAD off and cleaned up at the same time, if this has anything to do with my problem maybe????

Thanks in advance

Leigh

How long have you tried cranking it over for? it can take a while for the fuel to work its way to the injectors if you've had all the pipes emptied out. Pull the pipe off the fuel rail and see if you get anything out then (thinking is possibly the injectors are only letting a small amount of air bleed out at a time so its taking forever, but i dunno if the pressure regulator should help it bleed through the fuel return line anyway)

Have you put the fuel lines on the pump the right way round ?

OK update to my problem..thx for the replies so far...

I managed to sort the fuel pump issue...pipes were on the right way round, however the modified connector from the sytec replacement to the original housing was actually coming loose upon first pressurisation, so it was'nt delivering enough to pump through the lines.

I managed to sort this and hey presto everything was fanbloodytastic..or so I thought!

It ran well for a few hours, drove really strongly...but after leaving work at the end of yesterday, as I exited a bumpy junction and changed to 2nd, she bogged down and became really undriveable.

I just managed to nurse her home keeping the revs below 2k and cruising in 5th where possible. The condition got really worse and pretty much developed into what can only be described as the worst misfire ever!

I thought something had popped off at the junction, but everything is intact and the fueling side of things seems ok. Im trying to get to the bottom of it, wether its timing/electrical or air/fuel mixture maybe..but at the moment its happened so random from seeming fine earlier... I cant put my finger on it.

Considering getting her on all the gauges tomorrow with a local mobile mechanic, or even getting her to a rolling road. Any thoughts anyone please?

Cheers

Leigh
