Painting Wheels With Smoothrite

Recommended Posts

philfingers

Well I never did get a sand blaster, instead used a Da to get the old paint off.

last night gave them a coat of etch primer followed by two coats of celly primer filler. look pretty good so far so don't want to screw up. .. . .

BIG QUESTION!

Will I be able to spray them with smoothrite paint from a tin thinning it down with celly thinners. I have thinned smoothrite before with cleey and it's worked ok, but never put in through a gun.

Anyone any experience of this?

Or any other suggestions?

These guys are very good and supply most the paint to manufacturers for wheels. They have a huge range of finishes and colours. Their paint is very tough and will last.

Hope that helps.

Came out ok with the smoothrite. used some etch primer, primer filler and then thinned a 250ml pot of smoothrite down with celly thinners to make twice the amount and painted all four wheels with it. Looks ok for about £10 in total! Gold shade is a bit odd but not too bad.

that finish with smoothrite is a lot better than when I accidently sprayed up a wheel in hammerite!

Did you take the tires of the rims or just mask them?

I have done quite a lot of wheels what with having a rally car that needs a lot of diffrent tyres. I have masked up tyres and done wheels with out tyres but the best method is with out the tyres. I only masked up the tyres when i need the wheels in a hurry !
