306 Engine Into A 205

I know this has been done to death already but there is a twist to this one, not wanting to do the GTi-6 conversion like most, am doing the 306 XSi engine (2.0 8V) as its going into a sporting trials car and low down power and traction is more important than a screamer.

 

Been having a closer look at the engine, can i run it on a 205 Gti inlet manifold and distributor (as on the end of the cam there is an alu block that looks like it unbolts and there could be a Gti Dizzy fitted) as ive seen on a post by searching that a Std 205 Cam can fit http://forum.205gtidrivers.com/index.php?showtopic=84368 so it got me thinking rather than trying to get the ecu and everything else into the 205 from the 306 as it has the imobiliser keypad in the centre console, can i run it on 205 management etc???

 

any help would be appreciated

why not just use a 1.9 8v? think they have similar power outputs.

The 306 is iron blocked so the weight to the front will help with the traction.............

if you really are going to the bother of fitting the 2.0 block, put a gti6 in,

 

if you're staying 8v then proper management will make the world of difference to the standard engine.

LSD isnt allowed, we crossed that bridge and an ATB isnt either , classed as cheating..........well the GTi6 revs too high in reality and better off with torque low down instead of revving its nuts off.

you don't have to rev the gti6 to access the torque, it has far more torque throughout the rev range, sounds like you're believing the typically misinformed argument that 8 valver's have more torque, they simply have nothing up top like a 16v does.

 

LSD not allowed???? ah, I missed the car trials bit earlier! is it autotesting or something? sounds like you want a 1.1 205 with its fantastically supple chassis

There is a chap on here who has done a similar conversion, I think he is called Jengis. He was running 205 inlet and management as well as far as I recall. There is a thread on it somewhere around here.

Easiest way is to swap the inlet manifold, cam cover, thermostat housing and distributer over from your existing engine, and run it on 8v management. You don't need to swap the cam per-se, but the GTi cam is a hotter item and should give more power than the mild XSi cam.

If it is low revs and lots of torque you want, how about a diesel?
