Time For New Rear Tyres....

Recommended Posts

chocolate_o_brian

When I bought my 205GTi, it had pretty new Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3's all round. The wet grip of these, on this car is absolutely phenominal, but they're a soft compound and the rears (swapped from fronts a while back) will need replacing.

Thing is, Camskill only do 195/45/15 for these at £55 a pop and I need 195/50/15. (and £55 each is expensive).

What other tyres can compare in the wet with the Eagles? The T1-R's are a good choice, and I've heard good about the Yoko Parada's too. I'm really after a pair of rear tyres for around £60 but with excellent wet grip (and dry obviously).

Any suggestions, or websites please would be greatly appreciated. I'm scouring now as ideally I want more Goodyear rubber as I'm used to the no-nonsense characteristics in the wet.

Mytyres are still listing Eagle F1 GSD3's in 195/50R15 size, although they're £51 inc delivery! I remember they were around £30 at one point... :D

I was having a read through a thread today regarding Prada's...the general consensus is that Prada's are poo when it gets damp.

I'll find the link for you.

Here it is :D

Seems it's between finding the Goodyears on offer somewhere then or swapping to Toyo's.

Had T1-R's on my old Impreza and they didn't seems great in the wet. But that was a car weighing 1250kg with a notorious understeer streak, whereas the 205 is 900kg and a better handling car.

Last thing I want is the back end snapping out more often, hensewhy I would prefer tried & tested Eagle F1's :D

Running Toyo proxies all round.

Never had any problems in wet or dry.

They work out at £70 a piece though. :D

EH!

Can get them for about £30-35 EACH off Ebay, Camskill, loads of tyre places. Postage is about £5 a tyre and about £5-8 to fit/balance.

I'm on about 195/50/15 ofcourse, not say 215/40/17 like on the old Scoob.

They're just over £31 nowadays off of the 'bay'. I have just bought a full set of T1R's for similar money to the Prada's

I found a company that mobile fitted them for £55 each but can't find them on google anymore :( doesn't help that I can't remember what their name is

F1 prices seemed to go up with oil prices, so they should have come down again in price

I ordered 4 F1s from mytyre today.

Nothing back to say unavailable or anything so far B)

Fancied a change from Proxes. Didnt like the Paradas on my mates Focus ST, so went for the F1s.

Ive heard for ages now there fazign them out, and superseeded by the Asymetrical F1s, but they only do them in 17 or bigger. And dont seem to be releasing anything smaller, so what exactly is going to happen for smaller sizes if they axe the GSD3 ?

They'll loose a fair bit of business then

Why phase out one of the best tyres in the wet? I just don't get it. Tweak it maybe or release it under a new guise, but leave the tread pattern the same and let us men buy the buggers

May I ask what you paid for your tyres Rom? Pm if necessary

Having had a look at several reviews today, it seems the Vredestein Sportrac 3 tyre is a very good choice also. About £42 each from Camskill seems a bargain for the grip they seem to give allround, with wear.

Seems that or T1-R's then. Hmmmmm....
