Cylinder Head Recon

Recommended Posts

Tom Fenton

Head skim is £40, stem seals are included in a gasket set, and it doesn't sound like the seats are being cut, as usually you would replace the guides and then do this, so perhaps they are just grinding the valves in?

Personally I would not pay £180 for this work, but then again I have the knowhow to do all of it apart from the skim myself, so it may be good value to you.

I think you would save alot if you did the work yourself and got your own parts for it.

I suppose part of the price is for labour etc, i don't know, i have had prices much higher than that for the same type of work so it does seem cheap in comparison.

What is involved in cutting the seats, i've heard that the guides are pressed in and out.

Cutting the valve seats need a special cutter ideally on a vertical milling machine with the head head securely flat while its done for accuracy.

Valve guides are pressed in & out but again, a speical machine is used.
