Oil Filter Replacement

just got a genuine peugeot filter is it ok to take the cheap old one off and screw this straight on without changing the oil provided i lube it up first ?

Well no; you're not gonna do any harm.

 

But the two usually go hand-in-hand as they're linked. It's like doing a spring clean and washing the floors but not emptying the bins.

Not sure if the filter is below the oil level or not but I think if you change the filter without changing the oil, you may find it'll get messy....

 

Drain the oil first then change the filter then put in fresh oil. It's always best to do a proper job and it's easy enough to do.

I think that the filter sits far enough up the block for you to change it without making much of a mess. If your worried about the oils not mixing, then why not just use some of the oil thats in there already, if its fresh oil from a recent change, it shouldnt be too bad. Personally I would drop the oil out and replace with fresh :wub:

Wasn't sure, but was basing it on 15 years ago when I changed the oil and filter the wrong way round on a Volvo I was tinkering with. I remember my dad not being pleased with 2 litres of Castrol's finest making it's oily trail down the drive way... There are some people that should be banned from weilding a spanner and I'm one of 'em! :wub:
