90's Phone Kit Removal

Recommended Posts

The Arch Bishop

Hi

Some previous phone lover had fitted one of those 9,000 piece phone kits to my pug leaving tell-tale holes on the top of the dash and centre trim. Whilst there's not a lot I can do about these, I am keen to remove the awful aerial from the rear screen (see pic).

Can anyone tell me the best way to take it off without ruining the heater strips and also, whether it's going to leave a soddin' great hole in the screen?

I've never had a go at removing these things and I'm not sure if the two halves have a direct connection (through a cut hole) or whether they work via radio signal through the glass.

Any ideas

There won't be a hole in the glass, it's toughened so would shatter if you tried to drill it.

For the same reason, be careful removing the ariel, I'd suggest heating it up with a hair dryer and twist it side to side, a bit at a time, if that doesn't work, get a thin guitar string, wrap eash end around something to use as handles, then "saw" through the glue with it.

Good idea Rob.

Once you have done that have a go at the screen with tar and glue remover and a stanley blade

Be careful not to cut your self and to get the right angle on the blade or you will scratch the screen.

GOOD LUCK. :excl:

A new Stanley blade will work a treat. hold it against the glass and push. You can use it on the inside, but you'll have to be careful when you get close to the heating strips.

Edit: Beaten to it.

Thanks for the replies chaps! I'll hope the glue has aged and weakened over the years. Think I'll give it a go over with the hair-dryer and then try not to slice my arms off with a stanley blade!

Just the two Halfords GTI badges on the front wings to go after that and she'll be carbunkle free!

Hot water for the dodgy badges. Thats how I got the '205' stickers off of the doors and boot on the girlies DTI. Poured a kettle on them and they peeled off really easy.

Did the boot badges on a Polo once and they just slid off themselves after about a minute under the hair-dryer. Volkswagen quality that is...

Thanks platty, the add on badges really grate on my nerves when they catch my eye. It's not like a 205 is short on Gti badges dotted about!
