Which Airfilter For Tb's?

Recommended Posts

Spiky

ok, some know i bought a set of TB's but it didn't come with a filter

now, there are several options, but only 2 i think are worthwhile

1 itg on the back plate

2, bit like what dj mini has done (see pics)

my TB came with the back plate so i guesss option one is the best?

will the second one give you pressurized air? also, will it be better if the filter locates an inch further back toward engine, the air will nnot be dragged away by high speed wind when cruising at high speed?

i see what you mean

would it affect a car like a 205 though?

which would be the quiet'est of the both setups?

from my point of view for the second setup, the so called "pressurized" air may not be efficent enough to be noticed any advantage, but the cold air will simply rush into the cylinder whenever the throttle plate and the valve are opened instead of sucking by the piston down stroke.

you may need some sound deadening cloth (like the one stick under the bonnet, not those heavy mat) to wrap around the airbox and backplate in order to make it quiet. my previous 8v setup had an airbox and it's much quieter than my current 16v without an airbox. i guess the airbox did help to lower the noise.

well my plan wasnt tio have the setup like DJ MINI's, well not completely,

if i decided to go the airbox route, i would stop it just behind the guttmann grill i going to get, so looking at the front of the car it would look semi normal, if that make sense?

this setup was based on what i think is right regarding the rushing in cold air idea. wanted to do something similar to DJ MINI's, but have to lower and move forward the air-cond condensor and radiator, and use 2 pull type fan instead. it will cost me a lot but just for what i think is good. so plan declined.

I have the pipercross socks and have cut the rad cowling and removed the slam panel to get extra air into them as per pic of red car.

I was under the impression that an air filter has to be a certain distance away from the trumpets.

The ITG with the back plate looks too close to the trumpets.

What ever you do spiky dont use socks they sap power badly. We did a few runs with my mates 106 (SB 200bhp tu) the diffrence with and without the socks was a fair bit you can realy feel the diffrence.

Your never get possitive presure all you can do is reduce the heat soak coming up from the rad.

Spiky I have spent tim eon AVA rollers with the 205.

A good air flow makes 20 bhp difference and you need to try and keep the filter atlest 20mm from trumpet.

I also have a sheild blocking hot air from rad.

I tried runs with no socks, socks and hard k+n filters and power is no different as long as air feed is the same and distance is same.

so options 2 above, DJ mini's idea is probably best? though have the filter sit just behind the grill

yeah DJ's looks good to me.

I have my bonnet raised by an inch at the front to further aid flow.

Looks kinda silly but I will cut the lip of the bonnet when I get time

sheild i guess would need to be alloy or carbon fibre i guess, thought that carbon look plastic would be ok i guess :) nice and light.

you could send them here dude, not much i can do though, or just get the new inserts sent to you and you fit?

but if you want to send them here, i;ll have a look and fit new inserts and sent them back, thats cool too :P

Yeah the sheld really needs to reflect latent heat and direct the hot airflow away from the TB's.

My linkage is on the bottom so I dont have much room.

I understand what your saying on the shocks, I just want someome who knows what they are looking at to check them out for me as I dont want to have to go thru the hassle I had when fitting them the last time.

We tried every possible combination of top mount/spring/holder/height etc to see if we were getting it wrong somehow and it still bottomed out!
