Firstly it could be the thermostatic switch screwed into the back of the rad, unplug the connector and bridge the connections with some wire, this should kick the fan into life, if not... one should show low speed (it passes through a resistor), bridge the other connection and you'll get high speed.

If that all works, you know the circuit is ok, and it's either the connections on the rad thermo switch or the switch itself.

cheers

J

If everything checks out ok with Kyepan's suggestions, it could also be a thermostat stuck in the closed position or failure of the waterpump impellor. The latter is unlikely as these waterpumps have a very solid metal impellor, not a flimsy plastic one like some of the newer cars have today. If the fans work as they should, try removing the thermostat and see if the fan cuts in then.

Good luck,

Liam.

i think id rather have a plastic one after seeing ( or not seeing at all in this case!) the one that came out of my 306.

I had the same problem, as above could be the rad fan switch or a combination of that and 20 yr old wires. Mine seemed to come on when it felt like it so was hard to locate the fault. I ended up cutting out all the old fan wires and putting in a revotec fan controller. Works a treat.
