Sooooooo Fuel Compression And A Spark

Recommended Posts

hexhamstu

tried to fire it up today, didnt. so i did a compression test all around the 150psi mark check for a spark and it was there, but it looked kind of weak to me, then i electricuted myself :) . also pulled the fuel hose off the carbs and it was pumping fuel out, also looked down the trumpets and could see fuel being sprayed in at WOT, so wtf mate? also fitted the new spark plugs still nothing.

going to try a new dizzy, arm, ign amp, coil dunno what else to try. i have an 8v ign set up and dizzy adapter i could try instead of the 16v set up.

they are on the correct firing order, but welshpug has adivised me to put cylinder 1 at TDC and see if the rotor arm is pointing to lead 1. so this on the list of the things to do tomorrow.

Bad earth can cause a weak spark leading to it not fireing, try a jump lead between the chassis and the engine/gearbox.

ORB

If it is the MI and R1 combo that I think it is, I had a little trouble at the start.

The issue was indeed that the Rotor was out by 180 deg.

The only other issue was that the fuel in the carbs was air locked and the floats were not filling correctly. All this involved was draining the fuel out from the little allen head bolts at the bottom of each carb. Let it trickle out and thats that.

its an mi on dellorto 45s, but i guess it could still be air locked but i sw fuel being squirted out when i looked down one of the trumpets.

i'd try what has aready been said. check that the earth leads are all ok.

also, do you have a spark tester? they are a really handy tool for this kind of problem.
