Difference Between 1.6 105 And 115 Hp Engine?

Recommended Posts

Guest freda155

Hi!

I tried searching, but it's hard to find what I'm looking for.

In Sweden the 1.6 with 115 hp was never sold, only the 105. Is there a noticable or big difference in acceleration between the two specs?

If I would convert my 105 to a 115, what parts are needed?

Why won't I switch to MI16? Virtually impossible if you want to pass Swedish MOT!

Easiest way, change the head. The 115 has got larger valves and im not sure but maybe a higher lift cam,but if you change the whole head you covered both bits  . Iv driven one 105bhp 205 and it flew, but it was a while since i drove it and dont know whether i think its faster than it was (i did have a 1.1 at the time) and it might have had an engine change at some point in its life and with the 115 being more common it could have been replaced with that. Id put a 1.9 in it,surely you could get away with that?

peugeot developed the head for the 1.9 gti and did extensive work on it. They then fitted it to all gti's even the 1.6 ones hence the 10 bhp difference.

I would go for a head swop at least. Port match it to a gasket, but personally I wouldnot bother doing anything els to it unless you have lots of money to waste.

In your case because of Mot regs etc then i'd say yes, a good and bad 1.6 can feel very different, and i should think that's what it'd be akin to. :)

With a 1.9 head you'd be getting the bigger valves as well as increased compression to 11.1:1 I think. You'd need to run on 98 octane fuel but i'm sure you'd be well over the 115 bhp figure considering you'd be going from 9.6 compression to 11.1 . (Don't take these numbers exactly, they are from memory and may be a little off).

Not seen the spec of a Sweedish 205 GTi so without knowing what it is it's hard for us in the UK to say
