Few Questions 1600 Gearbox And Twin Carb Content

Hi all wonting to change my gearbox to the 1600 one, wonting to know wheather i will need to change the clutch and flywheel to the 1600 ones or with the 1900 ones be ok.

Also if i change the trumpets on my carbs will they change the way there act/perform?

!.6 and 1.9 use the same clutch - supposedly using the 1.6 flywheel gives freer revving, not tried this myself (yet), though

I've a BE3 1600 gearbox- would swap it for a 1900 BE3?

The 1.6 flywheel is supposed to be lighter than the 1.9. I have not personally weighed them but there can't be much difference. When I was at 205 Parts in Leicester I spoke to Paul and he said there was no difference between the two so...?

 

Changing the trumpet length will change the overall inlet tract length which effects power and torque. It's a fine and complicated art and depends how you want your engine to behave. Sandy said to me that a total length of about 350mm is supposed to be good (that's from valve seat to trumpet mouth (valve seat to head face +/- 95mm)). Do a search quite a few topics on this.

cheers for the replys i'll add the 1600 flywheel to the list and from there as for the trumpets i'll try and get a longer set than what i have at the mo and see how it feels (got very short ones on at the mo)

 

Not able to swap boxs sorry need the 1900 for m8s engine.
