Piston Liners And Sealant?

Recommended Posts

madspikes

In the process of rebuilding the old pug engine and i'm replacing the liners. The o'ring seats in the block are ok, but not 100%, just wondering if I could use some sealant (as well as the o'rings) to help seal the liners in the block, just to sure?

Bad plan just use the liner seals, new block if you think the seats are poor really. asking for a fail otherwise.

As above, only use the seals, the liner projection will be all over the shop if you dont get the head back on before the RTV goes off.

Intresting, as one for my "donor" engine which was professionally rebuilt had sealant around the liners. I thought it a bit dodgy, hense my asking.

Thanks,

Mad.

I've used wellseal on my liner seals a few times with no problems, would do the same again. Its non setting so won't affect anything else.

I did what Tom did above ^^^ on my own engine rebuild after reading Tom's project thread and I don't see what harm it can do ( I also used that well seal stuff)

A smear of sealer wont do any harm at all. Have bedded numerous liners on a small bead and never had a problem. Especially helpful if your liner seats in the block arent the best.
