1993 1.9 Gti - Cat - Can I Use 95ron Unleaded?

Recommended Posts

Hello!

Just a quick query - I'm in the pipleline for a 1993 1.9 GTI, CAT model. First GTi!

Is it ok to run this on regular unleaded 95ron fuel?

Thanx, great forum!

Al

I've had 2 catalysed 205 GTIs and I've used 95 in them and never had any trouble, though these days I do normally use 98 tbh

having recently bought a ph2 cat 1.9 and used both, the 98 seems to get better fuel economy, officially the 1.9 engines are supposed to run on 97+ RON fuel, but if you retard the ignition timing by 4 degrees then 95 is just as good!

Depends on what injection system, as I believe you cannot retard the timing on late motronics- per the haynes manual you cannot set the timing as I was looking, will run better on 98 1993 1.9 8v with cat

It'll run perfect on 95ron, it was designed to use that fuel.

My 205 started life as a CAT model (XU9JAZ). As said, they have full engine management, i.e. electronic ignition mapping as-well as fuel mapping (so don't need to be manually adjusted). Lower compression ratio too. B)
