406 Xu10j4r Ecu Unlocking

Recommended Posts

How exactly does the ecu become 'locked' via a signal from the keypad or is it internally in the ecu ?

The reason im asking is i possibly need another ecu for my 405 xu10j4r- conversion and i managed to lock the ecu by putting 12v to one of the pins :) and the donor 306 xsi the ecu came from has no keys (well they cant be found)

There are several ecu's ( bosch 5.2) avaiable on ebay but if each ecu is coded to the car it was removed from then surely they are all useless??? or can i just take my ecu to someone with another 406 2.0 16v / 306 xsi plug it in and get then to start the engine and remove ecu ??

And yes i am a spanner for locking an otherwise ready to go ecu

i don`think your ecu was unlocked...

the early key pad type ecu`s can be unlocked by starting the car and dissconecting the keypad and will never lock again

but a later type with the tansponder key needs the whole imob wiring up unless you unlock it via a chip wizard type company which remove the imob from ecu and cost 80 notes...

so your powering up of ecu wont have locked it

it will stay locked untill it see`s the key signal

i have a306 xsi i can try it out i also might have a ecu kicking about... i will have a look

your right jim

Unless the ecu was unplugged when the engine was running or them ignition was fully on with the immobiliser switched off then it will still be locked.

Once an ecu is unlocked in the above way it wont lock again unless it gets signal from the keypad or the key

cheers for the replys, yeah id been starting to suspect that so i managed to get an earlier type keypad immobiliser ecu from a 1.8 406 last weekend, handily had the ecu code left in the car.

unlocked it via the code while it was in the car (406) but seems to also still unlock now off the 405 keypad immolbiliser wiring (with the same code from the 406) which is a bonus as it appears not to need any wiring changes now

You are not the first to have been sold an unlocked ECU only to find out it is locked. I have spocken to a number of people who have wasted many hours trying to get an engine to start only to disscover there so called unlocked ECU is locked.

I can unlock your ECU for you.

hi there,i think i might be having similar problems with my car 2.0l 8valve turbo xu10j2te from a xantia . The car wasn't runnng quite right so i swapped the ecu for a spare i had (ebay). It fired up and then after about 5mins just died.So i swapped the ecu back and still no joy. There's no spark from the coil pack or feed to fuel pump but the engine turns over. It's totally immobilised itself. I've had 2 mechanics fail to diagnose this problem. I'm wondering if by fitting a locked ecu can cause an unlocked ecu to lockup? Thanks.
