'standard' Hubs Vs. 1.9 Hubs

Recommended Posts

shalmaneser

There's tons of base model 205's/309's in my local scrappy, and I'm eyeing up a big brake conversion. Can I use these hubs or are they different to the 1.9 hubs - I know the 1.6's have a funny offset, but do the standard hubs act funny as well?

I'm thinking the Base and 1.6 Hubs are the same and then there's the 1.9.

As far as i'm aware , base petrol models will have 1.6 type hub :D (although i'm not sure if the actual offset will be same as on the 1.6 GTi hubs ) so the 1.9 shaft wont fit to these ones nor the bigger dia. disc from 207/307/306 .. best bet will be finding 205/309 TD car as these ones will have 1.9 kinda hubs so the 1.9 GTi shaft will fit straight inside and will be suitable for big brake conv. as well ..

the offset of base model hubs are the same as a 1.9, but the driveshaft spline is smaller.

the offset of the 1.6 gti hub is different to both, but the same size spline as the base models.

Confirming what Welshpug has said, base and 1900 hubs are the same offset, just the spline size differs.

You could use base model hubs on a 1600 to get the more common offset in order to run 1900/GTI6/307 brakes.

Glad that ones cleared up <_<

Slight Hijack:

I'm replacing the hubs on my STDT, if I get a pair of 1.6 hubs will they fit?

depends what the STDT has fitted, I "think" they would be 1.6 type hubs.

easy way to check, whip a wheel off and check the offset of the disc, the STDT uses vented ones which if they are 1.6 have a fairly deep offset, the 1.9 offset is lower.

So , say on a 205 1.6 GTi car , fitting base model hubs instead of OE 1.6 GTi hubs will make the front end of the same offset like the 1.9 GTi right ? and the bigger disc fit on these ones as well ?! <_<

yes Damir :D you would use your original 1.6 driveshafts :)

Jimi, a quick search on servicebox shows that a TD would use base model hubs, 1.6 gti type bendix calipers and 1.9 gti type vented discs <_<

Ah nice one <_< my mate has a 309 1.4 complete car for scrap spares so i'll strip the hubs + driveshafts off then and add them to my spare part collection :D

Cheers WP, Hence my confusion!? So if I were to change both hubs to 1.6 Hubs I could keep my driveshafts? (My head hurts..)

Yes, but you would need 1600 discs to get the correct offset for the calipers!
